KPFA speaks to Keith Harmon Snow about George Clooney's March 16 arrest and the new anti-Sudan legislation HR 4169 built on the momentum of the phony KONY2012 propaganda about Uganda. 17 March 2012.

KPFA/Ann Garrison:

Keith Harmon Snow, Congressmen Royce and McGovern's proposed House Resolution 583 calls for action on the momentum built by KONY 2012, and more funds for logistical, intelligence, and communications support to the African troops and U.S. Special Forces trying to capture Kony. It also calls for U.S. restrictions on, quote, "any individuals or governments, including the Republic of Sudan, found to be providing training, supplies, financing, or support of any kind to Joseph Kony or the LRA." Could you comment on Sudan being singled out, even though none of these troops are hunting Kony in Sudan? 

Keith Harmon Snow:

George Clooney on being arrested made the statement: "We ask "[t]he government in Khartoum to stop RANDOMLY killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them."

The Government of Sudan is not RANDOMLY killing people. Clooney's ostensible outrage is ridiculous. Like Angelina Jolie, Clooney travels to and from Sudan with official Pentagon and intelligence support and protection. The United States and Israel and our NATO partners are involved in a full-scale military conflagration in Sudan involving guerrilla and covert operations forces. This should be exposed like the Iran Contra scandal - but of course all the US government officials know what is going on. The US covert war against Islamic Sudan began in 1990 and through decades of simmering low-intensity warfare we have slowly but surely eroded the power of the Khartoum government and usurped their sovereign lands through all kinds of mass atrocities paid for by US taxpayers.

The very same U.S. and Israeli military and intelligence officials involved in genocide and war crimes and regime change in Sudan are responsible for these same atrocities in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo and they are working with George Clooney. These are the same people tied to phony Kony 2012 agenda. Why doesn't Clooney protest the 10 million dead in Congo? 

The four biggest propagandists on Sudan are Clooney, intelligence agent John Prendergast, Smith College professor Eric Reeves and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof. These people imagine themselves taking the moral high ground. This is the nature of white supremacy. You cannot trust ANYTHING that they say.

They make up facts, distort reality, cover-up the massive U.S. military and intelligence and financial intervention going on right now in Sudan. They are presented as liberals - even progressives! They are published almost everywhere in mainstream or alternative media saying whatever they like as if it is GOSPEL. Of course, look a little deeper and you find extensive right wing, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-environment, anti-labor union, pro-corporate interests backing them. George Clooney and Reeves and Prendergast and Royce and Kristoff should be indicted for supporting war crimes in Sudan.

KPFA: 

Congressman McGovern's House Resolution 4169 would create sanctions on any government or individual, quote, "selling, leasing, loaning, exporting, or otherwise transferring military equipment to the Government of Sudan or any person controlled or supported by the Government of Sudan," unquote. But, President Obama added South Sudan to the list of countries eligible to buy weapons manufactured in the U.S. in the first week of January. H.R. 4169 also proposes sanctions on anyone providing property, goods, technology, or services of more than half a million dollars to Sudan in 12 months. Do you see anything much different in this playbook than in that for Iraq, Libya, Iran and Syria?

Keith Harmon Snow: 

California Congressman Ed Royce -- former chair of African subcommittee -- has authored this legislation basically advancing our covert military campaign for Regime Change in Khartoum. We already control South Sudan, and parts of Darfur. The United States and Israel, with the direct involvement of Ugandan dictator Yoweri Museveni, assassinated the Pentagon's former proxy guerrilla leader John Garang because he was about to become president of a UNIFIED Sudan. John Garang was trained at the School of the Americas and he did the US and Israel's dirty work. You see the US/Israeli guerrilla forces - the Sudan People's Liberation Army - in the stupid posed pictures where the Invisible Children founders all have guns in their hands but the KONY 2012 doesn't tell you who these guerrillas are.

Well, the Pentagon and the Christian right and Israeli Mossad have armed and trained and funded these SPLA killers, because they don't want a powerful Islamic state like Sudan. The strategic and tactical invasion and occupation of South Sudan occurred exactly as it occurred in Rwanda through the genocidal invasion by Paul Kagame, Rwanda's current dictator. This is exactly what they are doing in Congo as well. 

Congressman Ed Royce is responsible for genocide and war crimes in Central Africa and the Horn. You can see this by reading the US Congressional Hearings that took place at the time Rwanda and Congo were being invaded, and while Museveni in Uganda was committing genocide against the Acholi in the north were KONY is the bogeyman, just like President Bashir is the bogeyman - read terrorist - in Sudan.

So what we are seeing is simply a sub-saharan extension of the full spectrum military and propaganda attacks against Iran and Syria, just as we have already seen with Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq. Khartoum has ties with the Palestinians, with Eritrea--another country under US attack due to their attempts to seek autonomy from shock doctrine capitalism, and Iran. But Khartoum also has tight ties with the Central Intelligence Agency! 

This is not the black and white picture George Clooney and Dr. Eric Reeves and Nicholas Kristoff paint of the Government of Sudan RANDOMLY raping and starving people. These US agents like Clooney and Mia Farrow and Reeves don't talk about the Israeli shipments of weapons into south Sudan, for example, or the huge land grab by Wall Street investors.
